The "Lord's Supper"

Different Christian groups have different ideas as to how we should view the last meal Jesus had with his disiples. Perhaps the following discourse will provide additional thought on the matter. I have called it:-

A Sequence of Events.

Night 1. The Lord’s Supper, after which Jesus was betrayed.

Matt .26:45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
:47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

Then led away to Annas (the father in law of Caiaphas) first.
John 18:13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.

Then taken to appear before Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin, possibly for arraignment, late that same evening.
Matt.26:57 And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled…………(through to)
.:75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly. [Notice particularly vs.58, 69 & 71 as to where Peter was. Cock crow would have been around around 3 AM. See www.ortzion.org/darkhour6.html and scroll down to reference “Jewish night hours”]

Day 1-The following Day.

Appeared before Sanhedrin again for a “morning trial” around dawn the following day in accordance with Jewish law. This was the day after the "Lord's Supper".
Matt.27:1 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

Appeared before Pilate that morning, after daybreak.
Mark 15:1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

Pilate sends Jesus to Herod later that same morning.
Luke 23:7 And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time. Herod questions Jesus with many words, :9-- continuing the “trial”, then sends Him back to Pilate.
Verse 11 And Herod with his men of war set him at naught, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.

Pilate appeals three times to the Judeans to allow him to release Jesus, but to no avail.
Matt. 27:11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the
governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews?
And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest. –on through :12 to :24
:24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a
tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the
multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see
ye to it.
:25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and
on our children.
:26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had
scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

Still Day 1.

Sentenced by Pilate around noon! Pilate was a Roman governor. For him to hold court at night-time itself would have been CONTRARY TO ROMAN LAW.
John 19:14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and
about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your
King!
Matt.27:26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when
he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

Then into Night 2

Matt.27:27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the
common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
:28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
:29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon
his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee
before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
:30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the
head.
:31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from
him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify
him.

Tortured and mocked by a “cohort” or band of between 400-600 Roman soldiers (not ‘gentlemen in uniform’ but typical lowlife army grunts, well experienced in murder, rape, pillage and degradation of human life. Men who probably would rather be carousing in a local brothel-male or female-back home than stuck in this hell hole called Jerusalem). Grunts who took out their anti-Semitic rage and contempt on Jesus who was in their power for about 20 hours! Can you honestly think that Jesus was ‘slapped around a bit’ or ‘given a spanking’ by a couple of the guys while the rest of them took time out for a smoko?
‘--Just leave this Jew to us!! – We’ll teach Him a thing or two!! –-
--We’ll show Him who is King (or Fuhrer) around here!—‘

Then Finally-Day 2-NISAN 14. Thursday April 6th AD30

Led out to be crucified on the morning of day 2.
Matt.27:32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene,
Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

Jesus’ entire, precious body had been so abused, thrashed and mutilated by the Roman soldiers that He was unrecognizable and had not the strength to carry the cross on which He was soon to be murdered and yet
Joh 19:36 ……………………. A bone of him shall not be broken.
…………..Cracked perhaps, but not broken!

Isa.52:14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so
marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of
men:

Nailed to the cross at around 9AM on this, the second morning.
Mark 15:24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his
garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.
And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

And He hung there until around 3PM in the afternoon of Day 2. and He died.
Luke 23:44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a
darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.
:45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in
the midst.
:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father,
into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave
up the ghost.

In conclusion.

So, just what is it that is being done by the COG spinoffs at that sombre ceremonial ritual which has been described as “the annual Lord’s supper” and that excludes all children?
Exo 12:26 And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
Exo 12:27 That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD'S passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.

1Co 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

Is it celebrating the true Passover-one day early, is it an annual celebration of the "Lord’s Supper"-one day late, that is, on the day after the original event-because it is obvious that the last supper Christ had with the ‘twelve’ was two nights before the true Passover, or is it something else?
Just what is it? …One of those “PERIPHERAL MATTERS” maybe?
Or doesn’t it really matter what it is, just as long as it is done
to CHRIST – even as the Roman soldiers did it – to CHRIST?

And, at that supper, what kind of bread did Jesus break? Just what is Greek 'Artos'?

Jesus Himself said in John 4:22 “…salvation is of the Jews.”
He didn’t say “…of the Romans”.
