Supporting a Thursday Crucifixion

A Logical Progression.

If today were Wednesday, and I said to you that today is the third day since Sunday, would you have a problem with that? Because yesterday,Tuesday, would have been the second day since Sunday and the day before that, Monday, would have been the first day SINCE Sunday. No real problem with that is there?

So on that basis there should be no problem in determing what day Cleopas and his friend spoke of in:-
"Luk 24:18 And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?
Luk 24:19 And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:
Luk 24:20 And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.
Luk 24:21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done."

Previous scripture tells us that the day that Cleopas and friend met with Jesus on the road to Emmaus was on Sunday, the first day of the week, as in:-
" Luk 24:12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
Luk 24:13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
Luk 24:14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
Luk 24:15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
Luk 24:16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him."

The first day of the week, Sunday, is three days since the previous Thursday, the day Jesus was crucified.

A Thursday Crucifixion?

Relative to 'The Lord's Supper'.

TUESDAY April 4 30AD
This night, last meal eaten with disciples.
New symbolism given to traditional Kiddush, the bread and wine ritual.
Arrested and taken to High Priests palace. Interrogated most of the night. Then, at around 3AM:- "Luk 22:60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.
Luk 22:61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
Luk 22:62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly."
"Went out" - from the High Priests palace, at around 3AM.

WEDNESDAY April 5 30AD
1. Early AM - Sanhedrin Trial:- "Luk 22:66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
Luk 22:67 Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:
2. Noon. - Pilate delivers Jesus to be crucified.
3. Jesus imprisoned overnight:- "Mar 15:16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band."

THURSDAY April 6 30AD
The Day of Crucifixion:- "Mar 15:20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.
Mar 15:21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.
Mar 15:22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.
Mar 15:23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.
Mar 15:24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.
Mar 15:25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him."
on the Day of Preparation for the following Annual Sabbath (Matt.27:62)
"Joh 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

FRIDAY April 7 30AD
An Annual Sabbath, the First Day of Unleavened Bread.

Wednesday and the Sanhedrin Trial:
1. “Babylonian Talmud: Tractate Sanhedrin Folio 32a CHAPTER IV”
CIVIL SUITS ARE TRIED BY DAY, AND CONCLUDED AT NIGHT.10 BUT CAPITAL CHARGES MUST BE TRIED BY DAY AND CONCLUDED BY DAY. CIVIL SUITS CAN BE CONCLUDED ON THE SAME DAY, WHETHER FOR ACQUITTAL OR CONDEMNATION; CAPITAL CHARGES MAY BE CONCLUDED ON THE SAME DAY WITH A FAVOURABLE VERDICT, BUT ONLY ON THE MORROW WITH AN UNFAVOURABLE VERDICT.11 THEREFORE TRIALS ARE NOT HELD ON THE EVE OF A SABBATH OR FESTIVAL.12 IN CIVIL SUITS.13 AND IN CASES OF CLEANNESS AND UNCLEANNESS, WE BEGIN WITH [THE OPINION OF] THE MOST EMINENT [OF THE JUDGES]; WHEREAS IN CAPITAL CHARGES, WE COMMENCE WITH [THE OPINION OF] THOSE ON THE SIDE [BENCHES].
Found at:-http://comeandhear.com/sanhedrin/sanhedrin_32.html#chapter_iv
Thus, by Jewish Law, the Sanhedrin ‘morning’ trial could not have been conducted on Thursday, the “Preparation Day”, the day of the Crucifixion, the EVE OF A ‘SABBATH’.

2. Noon. Pilate delivers Jesus to be crucified.
"Joh 19:14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!
Joh 19:15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.
Joh 19:16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away."

Roman “Law of the Twelve Tables”
6-9. When the parties compromise the matter, an official shall announce it. If they do not compromise, they shall state the outline of the case in the meeting place or market before noon. They shall plead it out together in person. After noon, the judge shall adjudge the case to the party that is present. If both are present, sunset shall be the time limit (of the proceedings). At:-Table No.1 http://www.umass.edu/wsp/comparative/law/rome/twelve/table01.html
Thus, by Roman Law, to which Pilate was bound, John 19:14 stands as read, “about the sixth hour”, which was about noon, the day before the 9AM crucifixion.

3. Jesus imprisoned overnight (after being ‘led away’, as in Joh 9:16) and crucified the following day, Thursday, at 9AM
"Isa 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken."
